Going down with a few buddies for the first time in August for a dive trip. We'd really like to stay somewhere as "anti-big resort" as possible. The Sunset House looks good and fits our requirements (easy access to diving, small, shore diving, bar, etc). What are the other places on the island that are similar to this? We're only going to be down there for 4 days/3 nights so anything that requires a full week is going to be out.

That's pretty much it if you want to be in town. Divetech/Cobalt Coast might be another option if they do daily rates, they're an AI so I don't know. But they're pretty far north in sort of a residential area so you'd want a car to drive back to SMB for any kind of restaurants/nightlife.

No hotels/resorts along Seven Mile Beach have shorediving off their property (that's why it's such a good Beach..) However just about every diveop will pick you up anywhere along there for boat dives.

My Bar at SH is a diver's hangout. Good food also.

There's also the East End, Compass Point, The Reef Resort or Morritt's Grand. But they're a good 30-40 minutes drive back to Georgetown and anything resembling restaurants/shops etc. It's real quiet out there.

If I was doing a short trip to Cayman, I'd stay at Sunset House. It gives you access to town and a few dives in Georgetown for variety - Eden Rock/Devils Grotto and a couple more. If you do have a vehicle, the drive up to Turtle Reef is worth it. Sundivers runs the operation there now.

I've stayed at Cobalt and it's really not that far from town with a car. I'd say a 5 minute drive or so. Cobalt is a smaller place compared to the big resorts, they have good shore diving, pool and jacuzzi, on-site restaurant and bar and divetech. They have a pretty good wall off Cobalt's shore, I also recommend renting the underwater scooters. You don't necessarily have to do All inclusive there. Most rates usually include breakfast (which is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had) but you have to pay something like $50 more per day for lunch and dinner (which can be worth it depending on where you decide to eat out at) and the food is pretty good. Not your typical AI. They also have 4 day dive packages. I've never been to Sunset House but people seem to like it too.
