Hi scubazlot,

We've been to Grand Cayman lots and love all of it.

The East End is quite remote with great, pristine, often rugged diving. If you go there, look into Ocean Frontiers and their Compass Point condos. Steve and Mo run a great dive operation which consistantly wins internatonal awards.

When we stay near SMB, we stay in the Harbour View Apartments and dive with DiveTech and Neptune's Divers. This works great and the apartment is close to both George Twon for shopping and dining as well as SMB for both of the same.

As a great resource, check out the Cayman Activity Guide. It has discount coupons and tons of Cayman specific info.

Here are links to all the above,

I was there last year for my honeymoon and we went to both sides. We stayed at the Marriott on the west side and it was a nice place. We stayed for free (points) so who can complain really...the rooms were a little more cramped. We stayed without a car and did just fine using taxis or walking...there were plenty of restaurants and such all over (even a burger king, quiznos, and pizza hut that were all very close). At the end we rented a car and drove along the south coast to the east side. I liked it over there more cause there were fewer tourists and it felt more private and enjoyable. There is more touristy stuff on the west side but there are a few good things on the east side too (including Rum Point). Really its a small enough island that you can do both on the same trip easily. Have a nice trip!!

OH If you are interested in the east side, I can give you a great deal on my week this year at Morritts. My wife and I were going to go but we kinda got pregnant so scuba trips are off now!! haha Were probably going to go next year, but man I'll give you the best rate you can find on the island right now and its a wonderful place (3 pools, numerous restaurants, great diving, tons of beach, activities, etc.). We just want to have someone use this week and get a little of our maintenance fee back at this point!

Hey all,
You have been a great help and I appreciate all the advice. It looks like I am going to book a trip today, and we are going to stay on 7 Mile Beach. Between comments here and in other places, the diving may be more appropriate for more inexperienced divers such as us. Plus we are closer to some nightlife, restaurants, shopping, etc which will keep us busy on non-diving days and in the evenings as well. Plus we will be there over NYE, so would be nice to find a party or have something at the hotel for the night of NYE.

So thanks again for the help, and I may pop back in a few months to start looking at dive ops to book some trips, which sites to look for, etc.

Thanks again!
