I am heading to Grand Caymen in a couple weeks. I will be staying in the 7 mile beach area. Anyone have a recommendation for a good dive op to work with. I'm an instructor and my dive buddy is an experienced diver so was hoping to find a good local dive op that is not a "cattle boat". Interested in shore diving recommendations as well.

And all of these: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/ca...gestions-shore-diving-off-beaten-path-gc.html

Also to get a sense of most of the dives all of these have videos: iDive Global Locations

Non cattleboat is anything but Red Sail or Don Fosters. In all fairness they aren't either since there's an 8 divers/DM ratio everywhere but they can have multiple groups since their larger boats take 24 or more. Also Fosters is the cruise operator.

I often recommend Neptunes Divers, Wall to Wall, Indigo Divers or Ambassador Divers. All are 6-8 divers max per boat so there's no real chance of it being a cattleboat. Really there's no bad operators though, they don't last in the competitive market that is Cayman. You can find a complete list of CITA operators down the right side of this site: The Official Website for the Kittiwake Shipwreck - Home - plus you may want to dive the wreck.

Nobody is going to be much cheaper than 2dives/$100 unless you buy a multi-day pkg. Some of the better diving is also on the East End but from SMB that's almost an hour. And there's only two choices out there, Tortuga Divers or Ocean Frontiers.

My shore dive list:

Turtle Reef
Lighthouse Point
Cobalt Coast
Sunset House
Eden Rock/Devils Grotto - esp. now as the Silversides are in and may still be in a few weeks.

Babylon is also an option but it's a long swim out and there can be boat traffic. It's probably one of the better dives on Cayman though. Some of the boat operators go there also. Ghost Mountain is another I highly recommend. Check with Dive-Tech for either.

Divrgal1 when will you be there? My wife and I will be there starting 7/22.

Thanks for the excellent tips! We are staying at Comfort Resort and Suites so was considering Ambassador for the convenience.

We will be there July 13-20th. Looks like we will just miss you guys.

I'd recommend Jason at Ambassador - and have in the past. In the summer they dive the North Wall. Among others - Eagle Ray Pass, Hammerhead Hill etc. - Ghost Mountain is out there. http://www.ambassadordivers.com/north-wall

IDK if they still do but at one time, they'd go with 2 divers also.

He's one of the people behind iDive Global also.

Dive Tec has a great staff and their shore dive sites were amazing (they have 2 locations) lots of octopus, squid, and amazing fish. The food at their Cobalt Coast site was amazing and reasonably priced. I wish I was going....

DNS runs a very good dive op as well. Big boat, small group, valet service. They go North preferentially weather permitting.
