Hey guys,

Has anyone been to grand cayman lately and know what kind of damage the island sustained? Is it still worth going there to dive? What can I expect? We're trying to plan a trip but if everything is destroyed we'd rather go somewhere else.

Thanks
Jim

since no one has answered this - as far as I know GC is fine. There was a some damage on LC but I think things are all back and running there. The Brac took most of the damage this year.

(Maybe someone can move this from the Bahamas forum to the Cayman forum ...)

Just returned after a week @ the Reef Resort on the East End. There is no damage to G.C. The only thing I saw was left over from Ivan. Ocean Frontier is up & running with a full crew for 2 or more boats.
The Reef Resort was excellent by the way

Recently returned from a week of fine diving on the East End, and concur that island and the dive sites are in great shape.

Another vote by the way too, for Ocean Frontiers, one of the best dive operations I've ever used. Stayed at on of their Compass Point condos, just steps away from the dive boat. What could be easier!

Glad you liked OF, they're one of our favorites, too. We've never stayed at Compass Pointe. What are your thoughts about it?

We liked the accommodations at Compass Point a lot. Pretty much everything you need in a condo-type place just steps from the dive dock. Very clean and well kept, even though you're out on the East End where there isn't as much going on (a big plus for us) there are a number of options for dinner and such not too far away.

Essentially, the Compass Point part is as well run as the Ocean Frontiers diving part -- who could ask for anything more!

That says it all for me!

We've stayed on the Northside and Cayman Kai areas when diving with OF in the past. The Compass Point development sounds like a great alternative being right there and such.

Think you'd be hooked on staying there, just for the convenience of walking out of your condo and onto the dive dock, with all your gear ready on the boat.

If you go there a lot, they're building a fractional-ownership place across the street too. We're not big on that, as we like to hit different places all the time, but that's certainly a nice location. We hadn't been back to Grand Cayman since our first dive trip 15 years ago, and the diving and vis were as good as I remembered.
