Hi All Scuba Junkies

I am going on my honeymoon in December to Grand Bay, Mauritius.

Can anyone recomend diving spots around the area as well as a good diving centre which we can use for rental of gear and possible diving excutions around Grand Bay.

If there is any other activities that you recomend we do or see, please feel free to post them.

Your help will be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Victor

Ok, No one could give me info before we went so here is a rundown of our trip...

Maurtius is abselutely awesome!!!!!! We had such a good time that we are definatly going back there... The people are friendly, the food is good and the most beautifull beaches and water you have ever seen.

We unfortunalty could only fit in one dive but is was the best I have ever had. We dived on a wreck of a Chinese fishing boat that they have sunk there specialy to dive on. You spend about 20 minutes on the wreck and then swim over a reef with the most beautifull fish and underwater creatures. Loads of eels and tropical fish.

The dive shop was very effeciant although we paid a lot more that you could get away with as they were on a hotels premisis which I imagine the hotel takes a 30% of the amount per diver.

You can dive in Mauritius for Rs. 950 per person (all equipment and insurance included)

We paid Rs. 1600.00 per person - I did not make the booking so did not know what they charged.

Other than diving, the tourism structures are very well set out and there are loads to do from Going out on a submarine (40-50m below) to deepsea fishing. Things are relatively cheap.

If you are shopping there you must negotiate as that is expected of you.

If you want to drive there do only so in the smaller towns... do not even think of going into Port Louis with a car... Take a taxi... The traffic is herendice and everyone drive just the way they want... Trust me... you have never in your life experianced anything like that. Also if you are a pedestrian, watch out... the cars will not brake for you.

If you drink alcohol, make sure to buy from the duty free on the airport of dispatch (Whiskey is very very expensive in the restaurants) but the local beer "Phoenix" is generally cheap and very nice... Very much like Amstel.

Other than that you will enjoy your stay there.

I got a tip about Dive Dream at Trois aux Biches in Mauritius.
Had two great days of diving with them and highly recommend the shop.

They also have what looks like nice rooms for rent as well surrounding a central swimming pool. (I never got a look but I probably would try them next time.)

The whole staff was excellent and great to work with.
The diving was fantastic after the first "get to know you" dive.

I took some friends for the intro to scuba course and a couple were definitely hooked.

Don't ask me about the Lionfish at the "Emily et Water Lily" wreck or I will never shut up...
