Gradient Factors - What is Everyone Using?

I looked at my petrel2 and 30/85 is the medium setting IN REC MODE but the custom is default set to 40/85. what version are you using. I was assuming that all the versions were the same. OR poerhaps 40/85 is medium in tech mode.

I'm in Rec mode, Medium conservatism, V72 firmware.

im looking at the same thing my petrel2 in rec mode v 72 med is 30/85 and custom is 40/85 been that way forever. med was 30 85 when it came new. out of curiosity what is your rec custom reading or have you changed that for your own preference?


just looked at the setup again and I changed from med 30/85 to custom of 40/85 now the med option reads like yours does. I wonder if it keeps the old parameters when you do an upgrade and use them until you make a change?

I'm just a rec diver so it doesn't really matter to me, but plan to go with high conservatism (roughly GF high of 70-75).

FWIW Dr Simon Mitchell is currently advocating around 50/70

I dive to 30' max solo. "gradient"-- what's that? Yes, I HAVE a computer. I usually use my WATCH and depth gauge.

It's actually 4 years old now. I am not sure what Simon is using today. David Doolette's practices were cited earlier in the thread.

He mentioned 50/70 at around the 1:40 mark for more isolated locations. 50/80 in other standard conditions I guess.

I'm just a beginner but find the theory interesting.
