I figured I would post here since the computer forums speak way over my head, and lots of divers know computer stuff anyway.
I have a GPS with a USB port that I want to connect to a laptop with USB but no RS232, yet my Nobeltec nav software wants the GPS hooked to a COM port which I don't have. How can I emulate a COM port for my nav software?

Most GPS receivers will come with a serial emulator on the CD in the package. Or can be downloaded from the manufactures web site. If not, like JeffG linked to, any one should work.

Some receivers don't output standard NMEA data so checking the manufactures site might be the best initial bet.

Just called tech support at Garmin and they say it can't be done
