I agree, best dive computer EVER! I LOVE my Cobalt II. Thankfully, it is still working :) Someone mentioned crowdsourcing. Do it to get the funds needed to buy the 'Cobalt' name and design and bring Cobalt dive computers back!! Someone mentioned a wrist version. I know some people prefer having the computer on the wrist, but I like it connected with a hose to the regulator as is. So if you are successful at bringing the Cobalt back, make both versions.
Ron, I was going to DM you, but when I tried it said I needed to make 5 public posts first...so Instead I will put my message here.

What I'd love to see is a video on how to replace my Cobalt II battery. Mine is still currently working, but I realize at some point it will be at its end of life. I wouldn't mind getting another hose too, just in case I ever need to change the original one. Feel free to DM me. Thx!

Thanks for your positive comments- they are very much appreciated.

The Cobalt was an independently developed design that we eventually licensed to Atomic back in 2007, so there is no need to buy back anything, we have ownership of the design for the firmware, electronics, and user interface. We're user interface nerds, and wanted to make a computer that was easy to use and didn't require constant reference to a manual. That is harder to engineer than you would think. What Atomic did was primarily to design and build the case and mechanical components. In any case, that agreement has long ago expired, and Atomic's new owners, Huish Outdoors, were not interested in furthering the Cobalt design.

I doubt we would keep the Cobalt name- we gave that to Atomic, and while your Cobalt experience has been positive, I think there were enough people who experienced problems with leaks or other issues that the name is not an unalloyed positive.

I appreciate your comments about the console design. I do want to be able to offer a console version of our new design with updated sensors and electronics, ideally a means for existing Cobalt users to "up-cycle" some components into a new product. Our design is more compact, but keeps the same size screen and the same basic four button interface.

Keep checking, and I will post news as we get closer.

Cobalt II issue: Hi I am new to this site so hopefully I am posting correctly. Hadn’t used my Cobalt II for about a year so I charged it up. Had to redo the time and date. It has about 150 dives on it. Went cave diving yesterday and the water was 70° and my computer just froze up on the ready to dive screen. It read 0 feet and 3250psi for the entire dive. None of the buttons worked. I took it home and let it just run out of charge since I cannot do anything else and now just recharging it. All the buttons work again and I had to reset the time and date, but I am very concerned about diving with it again. I do not have much faith in it. Any ideas what could be wrong and I could get it fixed but at the moment have no faith

Hi Janet,
To try to figure this out, it would be very helpful to know what firmware version you have installed. This is important, and you can find your firmware version listed on the System Info screen. Here are a few other questions I can think of to get started. Some of these you have probably already answered above but I want to be extra clear to help with diagnostics and rule out hardware issues.

Setting the Time & Date is normal after running out of power- the Cobalt always defaults to the time of the last dive in the log.

So, just to clarify, you couldn't back up out of the ready to dive screen? Did the screen stay "up" the entire dive, or did the display go blank until a button was pressed?
Did you manually put the Cobalt into that screen, or did it go there when it got wet? The Cobalt needs to see wet contacts on the pins in the nose to start a dive.
Do the five contact pins under the nose look clean and clear?

And a couple of things to try that will help diagnose the issue:
Now, with it working, if you put it to sleep and dip the nose in water does it wake to the Ready to Dive screen?
If you navigate to the System Info screen, do the atmospheric pressure and temperature values look reasonable?

The Cobalt freezing in any screen is, to put it mildly, very unusual, so I'd want to make sure that the hardware isn't seeing some kind of issue. Let me know the answers to the questions above and we will go from there.

Ron, I look forward to seeing your new design! Janet's comment is concerning. Hope you are able to figure out that issue.

Thanks, So far I have not heard back, but we try to help out Cobalt users as much as possible.
