It's a good idea. I familiar with all the so called reasons for not getting them, but it's a good idea.

Got mine, along with my pneumonia, a few weeks back. The vaccine available this year was based on "experts" best guesses on which strains to expect, and while not the same as what's common this month - it'll still help.

 don

LOL, the only year that i got a flu shot i got sick as a dog. i got the shot on Thursday, missed work on Friday and thinking that would be it, stayed in bed sick all weekend. i went to the doc on Monday and he said you have the "flu". i told him i just got the shot last thursday and he said it does make some people sick and i stayed sick all that week. that was about 10 years ago and i havent had another flu shot and havent been that sick again. :) needless to say, i will NEVER get another flu shot. LOL

Not me buddy... a few years ago I did that "following the masses" here at work and we got our shots.. the majority of us were sick for months there after. I had tonsilitis 3 times during the course of 4 months, the first onset just 2 days after getting the shot. That did it for me. "They" can keep their vaccines and best guesses, I've suffered enough. :)

The sickest I've ever been in my life was the 2 weeks after my wife and I got the 'flu' shot. What we got was the worst case of the flu I can ever recall. Since she is a nurse we got them under her recommendation, now whe won't get one either:D.

I've found just taking vitamin C in increase doses (I know it's probably all in my mind;) ) does the trick of keeping the flu bug away.

I got mine a few weeks ago. I've been getting the shot for several years now with no issues. The one year I missed getting a shot, I got the flu! Nasty!

This is supposed to be a bad year for the flu. There is a strain out right now that has killed 5 children in England which is not contained in this year's vaccine. The flu has already been reported in several provinces and it is supposed to be the earliest start to the flu season ever.

Other than that, I'll be using plenty of hand sanitizer and staying away from sugar-laden edibles.

I prefer not to put "medicine" into my body that I don't need. Potentially deadly or incurable diseases...sure, but the typical flu for someone in good health isn't a big deal...just an annoyance. Plus, I get sick like once every year or less.

There is a distinct tendency for people to think every cold is "the flu."

I guess it's understandable that more people would gripe about bad experiences than support the idea. I'm sure people said the same thing about polio and smallpox vaccines, as there were real risks with those, too. People opposed chlorinating water - which I understand became the overall biggest death preventer in human history.

Yes, flu shots can make a person ill, but we know that people will die of flu across North America, while polio and smallpox and not as likely. And early reports sound worrisome. People die all the time, and death is an important part of life, but I like to offer good suggestions.

It's generally a good idea, as more people will benefit from it than are harmed. I do wish that they used air shots, like we used in the Marines, and were used in a big flu scare in the 60s, as they're less painful if you don't flinch but I got a shot in each arm, then did a few pushups right away so my arms wouldn't hurt.

Don, i'm sorry for starting the negative post about this. i know your right about it doing more good than harm. just in my case, it didnt help, if anything it hurt.

my mother got the shot every year for about the last 10 years or so before she died and it helped her. for those it helps, you should get a shot asap.

My feeling is that if the body can easily fight it off naturally and develop a natural defense, we are better off. Clearly older people or those in poor health already need to be protected, but it's pretty unnecessary for your average 25 year old.

Logical feeling - that's I'd support - except history says otherwise.

Come to think of it, people are still getting polio in some parts of the world because some argue against the vacccine.
