hello to all.well i give you the quick run down.i took my wife to aruba this past weekend (thursday to sunday) for the 4th of july and since she is not certified i took her on a snuba trip out to the antilla ship wreck.she loved it, so since weve been back thats all ive heared about.so my question is since its been ten years or so since ive been certified through naui and i dont dive as often as i used too (in other words out of the loop)is one better than the other padi or naui.i just want her to have the best training possable.and my other question is does anyone know of a good instuctor in my area.i live in acworth,ga.thanks your fellow diver

Not really, they'll both teach you how to do it(but not right---that's a whole new discussion--DIR that is)........I would go with the better instructor---if there is any way of figuring that out........good luck.........

Also, alot of NAUI, SSI's etc are ex PADI's...........

Don't worry about which agency. Interview the instructors and ask for referrrals. It's not about the program, it's how it's taught, and the student teacher relationship.

I agree it is not about the agency at this point, or maybe at any... I am not sure about that. I walked into a few dive shops around my area and thought one was considerably more professional and organized than the others. They happen to be a NAUI shop and so that is the agency I have done most of my training with. Talk to people and shop around a little just like you would anything else. Most important.... have fun!

There's definitely a lot of thoughts on this subject and if you search around the forum you'll find hundreds of topics debating PADI vs NAUI (and everyone else). However, regardless of the lengthy debate, there really is a lot to be said for finding the right shop and instructor for you regardless of what book they teach against. A good instructor will teach you how to dive following a guideline from their agency rather than just going over drills and skills without any regard for your individual challenges and strengths. Talk to a few local shops and find one with knowledgeable staff that your wife likes and that is interested in teaching and not just trying to fill spots.

If you can find that you should get good instruction which can be expanded on diving with experienced individuals and taking additional trips with other divers and/ or dive professionals. Getting certified is, as you know, just the start of the learning process and while you certainly don't want to learn all bad habits, a lot of the class is about learning comfort and basics, with much more about technique to follow after the card arrives in the mail.

As my instructor put it when I finished my PADI Open Water class... "now you have your training wheels."

thakxs guys youve been a great help.it would be great if i could fine the instrustor that i got certified with,so that my wife could use him(craig gold)he was great he cared more asbout the individual verses just putting someone in the water.but anyways.thanks again for all your help.

PADI or NAUI? Both are really good and accepted everywhere. It's more of an Instructor choice who you feel good about. Then, next is you have to like the dive shop. Good Luck!

to be or not be ?i guess is the question. i have never taken any padi classes and im sure their along the same guidlines(yes no maybe)but wondering if their even close to the same.and the one other guy that responded to my ?'s said that neither one teaches it write according to the DIR.i would like to get more info on that(not to open a can of worms but to open a can of worms)i havent been in a dive class in ten years not sure how much they have changed if at all.
