Well... after taking 2 weeks down to give my shoulder a break awaiting my appointment at the orthopedic surgeons office, I am happy to say that my activities that involve use of my shoulder (diving, my weight training workout, etc) have not been an influencing factor on my shoulders recent instability! In fact, for it to have lasted 9 years with as few problems as I have had with considering the method of injury and 3 rebuilds to get things stable again, demonstrated how serious I took the rehab and exercise to keep things in check so I could enjoy life.

(note: my shoulder was severely damaged when I was 15 and wrestling in HS but wasn't able to be treated until I was 19.)

The bad news now is on Monday I am going in for an MRI which will reveal what is really going on in there. Depending on what that shows, I'm most likely looking at a 'scope to clean things up and set me on path again for the next few years.

On the bright side, I've maintained with weight, but was absolutely going CRAZY trying to stay busy till I saw my doc!!

I wanted to take a moment and update on this. I had my MRI yesterday and will find out what the total results of it are in a few weeks (July 9). Fortunately, my doc says nothing I have been doing is a contributing factor only, its just the nature of my injury and corrective surgery that will require some sort of periodic maintenance to keep things in shape. Currently it looks like I'm getting 'scoped either way, the MRI will just determine the extent of the clean up done.

Welllllllllllll... tomorrow is the day I find out about my MRI. I'm probably looking at a scope either way, just how long will I be out comission afterwards will be dependant on if its a clean up or tightening of the screws. :)

Well.. there is inclusive enough evidence to show a need for an open reconstruction, however there is more than enough to warrant some clean up and tightening of the screws, if you will, to give that little extra stability back to my shoulder.

Pre-op: October 6
then vacation to MD for a few days
Operation: October 19

When should we schedule a keg party so you can rehab that arm & shoulder after surgery? :eyebrow:

Sorry about that! And sorry you have to wait such a long time to get on with it. But it is good that you have an answer! Here's to quick healing.

:) Tell ya'll what. I'm happy! I'm happy its not an open reconstruction like my last 3!!

The way I look at it, ladies go to the OB every year for check ups.. me, I go to the orthopedic surgeon for check ups every few years. Sometimes my shoulder needs a little tune up.. maintenance.. no biggie. :D

Keg party.. give me 2 weeks to get outa sling and pain meds. Mini-keg though.. can't get hozed and do something weird that'll twist things up :)

Depending on how thigns go, I may be out of work a few weeks or more and you can bet your wetsuit my surgeon, also a diver, knows that I want to be back in the water as soooon as possible!
