I'm new to diving, living in Arizona my scuba magazine options are severly limited, without a subscription.

What's your favorite scuba mag? Any suggestions on which I should subscribe to? FYI, the majority of my diving will be in California, if that helps.

Thanks

"Dive Training" is my favorite by far, but that may just be the fact that I'm a new diver. I've also heard that more experienced divers like it too though.

I also have a subscription to "Scuba Diving" (formerly Rodales), and the DAN one "Alert Diver". I usually enjoy Scuba Diving for the reviews etc, but I find myself engrossed in the Dive Training articles and actually learning something every time I read it. Not to mention it's not as heavy on the advertising.

Another side note, most open water courses provide a copy (or trial subscription) of Dive Training for free, so it won't even cost you anything to check it out.

I like to read Dive Training Magazine (great for new divers and their instructors), Scuba Diving, Sport Diver, Immersed (more for technical diving) and Diver (Diver, it's a United Kingdom publication)

You may also want to try Scuba Radio at http://scubaradio.com. It's a "radio show devoted to diving" as they like to say. You can get it over regular radio, or download archives to your hard drive and play them through real player, windows media player or even on an iPod through podcasting.

I subscribe to SportDiver, Scuba Diving and Alert Diver, and pick up Dive Training every now and then.

Dive Training is a great mag for "all" (both new and old divers).

FYI, if you do a search here you can find a thread about a free subscription to Scuba Diving Magazine.

Fathoms, far and away the most entertaining mag out there. My favourite part is the very in depth, 10-16 page, interviews with interesting people in the diving world, HOward Hall, Stan Waterman, Peter Benchly etc etc

Only comes out 4 times per year, www.fathomspub.com
Best thing is you can read almost the entire back issues online, give it a shot!

I'd start with Dive Training since you're a new diver. Scubadiving is more focused on dive travel and equipment and Sport Diver is about the same but with a slant towards all things PADI - it's their magazine. I get Fathoms for the pictures but it's pricey. I get them all except Dive Training.

If you want to see them before subscribing, you can usually get them all at Borders at 24th/Camelback generally, sometimes they also have Diver from the U.K.

Are you certifying through Scuba Sciences? I noticed you're SSI. So am I.

New website for SoCal diving that I just saw: www.ocscuba.com.

Also consider joining our Arizona Scuba (AZScuba) group. We meet the 2nd week of every month for a social evening and organize dive trips and other activities. And it's free. One of our members is currently putting together a 3-day boat trip August 11th to SoCal.

Dive Training is my favorite..I pick it up free at one of the shops in my area.

I also really like Wreck Diving magazine, lots of great info... I picked one up on vacation, and read the whole thing on the plane ride home!

Looks like Dive Training wins just about everyones vote including mine. As an Assisitant Instructor I can still pick up an issue and learn smoething.

Also check with your LCS, our gives out coupons for 6 month subscription free to our Open Water students.

Have a GREAT check out weekend.
