Hi,

Would appreciate some recommendations for places to eat in Grand Cayman-it'll be my first trip there. I will be staying on 7 mile beach.

Thanks!

Where to start?!
There are many excellent restaurants and it is difficult to list them but here are a few of my personal favourites:
Bed, Calypso Grill, The Brasserie and Ragazzi's.
For more affordable fare try Cimboco.
Happy eating,
CJ

Also "Eats" on SMB is inexpensive also Lonestar and Coconut Joes the latter 2 are somewhat tourist traps.Cimboco is very good. The Burger King in Georegetown has the best view of any fast food place ANYWHERE!!

I recommend Champion House (in downtown Georgetown) and also there's a little vegetarian place run by 7th day adventists right on SMB Road just North of Georgetown that's cheap and just the healthy thing for lunch after a morning or diving (can't remember the name but I think it's "Healthy Living" or something like that). If you want a fancy dinner try Casa Havana at the Westin Casuarina.

There are many great restaurants on Cayman.

You can go exotic and expensive, you can you cheap and good!

Ask your DM for recommendations on the latter. We prefer that style ourselves, but in years past have also done the fancy $100 per person route as well.

I liked the barbecues better, anyway.

Is "MacDonalds" still operating in Georgetown ? (I don't mean McDonalds, either!)

MacDonalds is still operating in George Town... and have expanded adding locations in the Industrial Park and the new Countryside Shopping Centre in Savannah.

Other affordable favorites include:
Bananas - on Eastern Avenue in the Dolphin Centre, for typical Caribbean or Latin fare
Corita's Copper Kettle - for Cayman favorites in the heart of George Town.
Champion House I - the carryout location which offers better food according to those in the known compared to the immediately adjacent sit-down location at Champion House II, on Eastern Avenue
Roland's Garden - not a restaurant. There is no menu nor liquor license. Reservations are mandatory, and you pay whatever you think the five course gourmet meal was worth. BYOB for an exceptional meal in the garden of your new friend Roland. Located in Cottage on the island's East End. Exceptional.

Having been to GC 10 times since 1999, here are a few of my favorites:

1. Edoardo's -- italian bistro in the Coconut Plaza center on West Bay Road [about 1/2 way up 7 mile beach]: Mussels to die for, great cozy atmosphere. Always our first dinner on the island!

2. Pappagallo's -- italian mish-mash on the north side of the island: a little off the beaten path, but worth it! Pappagallo's has a weird tiki hut atmosphere, but the food is great.

3. Deckers -- also on West Bay Road a little further south than Edoardo's -- We've eaten here 3 times, and had 3 outstanding meals. Cute servers, too!

4. My Bar at Sunset House -- not a restaurant, technically, but if you're looking for a watering hole with a local flavor, this is it. Full dinners are available from the adjoining Seaharvest Restaurant. Nothing better than to cap off a day of diving with a fine meal and a couple of drinks at My Bar!

Warning: You'll spend a good $100+ US per couple on dinner at these places. But what the hell, you're on vacation!

RIP: Crow's Nest, Smuggler's Cove -- victims of Ivan. <sniff>
