Hello. My wife and I will be in Florida over Christmas and have 1 day to dive in Key Largo. My wife was certified in early October and we both have only dove in fresh water in northern Ohio ( I have 25 dives in since last May). My question is what dive operator would be the best to use that would offer small groups and cater to a new diver? I have looked into Paradise Charters and a few others and need to make a decision soon. Thanks for the help.

Jack, while there are many excellent dive ops in Key Largo, sounds to me like you need to go with one that's small enough to be able to customize a trip for you. Of all the available ones, I recommend Skip at Island Reef Diver. He's located central Key Largo and is very amicable to arranging custom trips.

Bob and Barbara run a great charter. I used them for the first time 2 weeks ago, and will be using them from now on.

I agree 100%. Bob and Barb are great and will work with you to make sure you are comfortable. Just telll them what you are interested in and they will be more than happy to oblige! Also, they have a great boat that is comfortable even when they are carrying the max amount of divers (10 divers).

Have fun!!

I'm a resident of Key Largo and I like Bluewater Divers. Very nice operation, NOT a cattleboat and these guys are great!! Check out their website at www.bluewaterdiver.net. They are located right at the Holiday Inn Marina in Key Largo at mile marker 100. They can also arrange package deals for your stay.

Have a nice trip :)

These recommendations are great. I went a couple of weeks ago and thought that one operation was great (Divers City) and another one sucked (name withheld).

Diverjack, it's great you started this thread to take one of these recommendations so that you don't end up with an diving operation that will bum you out.

Ocean Divers? I guess you could use them if you like paying $70 to ride on a cattle train and do two dives. I dive out of Key Largo every weekend and always start Moo'ing when OD goes by =]

Try scuba-do, www.scuba-do.com. Laury and Tony are the owners. They have a nice boat and max out at around 10 divers. They are really nice people and there rates are good.
