"there are no free parts, so annual reg service will become quite expensive."

. . . . "IF" parts are required. I've paid for my annuals for years and never needed parts. It's just another cost of diving.

Thats a good deal, just take advantage of those free air fills. Gives you more reasons to dive, (like you really need another reason to dive). also congrats on your cert. support your local dive shop and they should support you, if not find another dive shop.

yknot:
SP is not the only manufacturer that offers free parts for life. SP is, IMO, overpriced and they certainly have gone out of their way to punish customers that obtain their gear in a non traditional manner. A friend of mine was recently quoted a price of $400 for a battery replacement on a Uwatec computer he bought from LP (quote was from SP). By comparison, most Suunto dive computers have user replacable batteries. Using the internet as a basis for prices, since I don't know what kind of competing LDS' you have nearby, the SP reg you are looking at runs $390 at Leisurepro and could be compared to an Apeks ATX50 for $330 at Diveinn. The Apeks is also an enviromentally sealed cold water reg which eliminates a concern with the SP reg. The SP BC is $500 at Leisurepro which is a lot for a jacket BC (IMO) while a Zeagle Concept II back inflate is $350. There's a $210 diff just on those two items and the Zeagle gear can be purchased online with a warranty.
There are several scuba gear makers that say they offer "lifetime warranties" but fail to follow thru on their promise. SCUBAPRO has continued to provide parts and servise for their products. I have a 12 year old MK10 and love it. No problem getting service or parts. Not all companies are that good ... see the thread "dumped on by diving companies again" www.scubaboard.com/t70450-.html to hear about the problems with Dacor/Mares .
