So I was next door at the dive shop and was talking about if they allow you to spearfish some of the larger wrecks, like the Big "O" and things like that; not that I would due to the large amount of visitors. But other large well known wrecks, anyhooters, then someone chimed in with the "fact" that they have allowed Goliath's to be hunted now. Being a huge topwater fisherman I disputed it and said that I was pretty sure that it was still not legal to keep them, but he disagreed, so I left him to be with that thought.

I am sure that it is not true, but has anyone heard otherwise?

My parting comments to him were "Good luck and let me know how you make out."

Walter is right. There is some talk about opening a season but right now that is all it is.

Last month the Gulf Coast Council heard a request to approve the scientific harvest of 1500 Goliath Grouper. The Council appears to be in agreement. Dr. Crabtree had no opposition. The details (who, what, where, when, how) on this are currently being worked out so they can be voted on and approved. It is not finalized and as of today, catching a GG is illegal.
