From what I have heard, avoid diving around Penang. Langkawi is slightly better but not much. Your best bets are Redang and Perenhtian on East Coast Malaysia - Quite nice in my opinion.

if you're in kulim, chances are there are divers at yr place of work :)

getting in the water on a daytrip - Pulau Payar, 9'ish am departure from Port Swettenham in Penang, back at 5pm. 2 dives, lunch, snorkeling during SI. a few choices as far as operators are concerned. East Marine, Langkawi Coral are the primary, though going with dive shops is another option. i go with seatrek.com.my

a bit longer, maybe a 4 day weekend deal - drive over to the east coast - Perhentian, Redang, Lang Tengah.

a bit more, maybe a 5 day/4 might investment - Tioman, Aur. 9-11 hour drive, or hop via air asia to Kuala Lumpur, then a bus trip.

if the company you'll be working at has a phone number that starts with '408' then pm me.
