IMO diving in the Houston area is not that great; more often than not the viz sucks big time. The only reason I dive in the "mud holes" is to get my ears wet. Have no expectations and you will not be disappointed. My best advise is to get to the dive spot early and get your dives in before the students arrive and muck up the viz. If you want to brush up on your navigation skills it is a good choice because all to often it is like diving blind.

If you decide to dive Lake Travis and are going to rent gear, you might as well rent it in Austin. That can save you the hassle of luggin it back and forth. Plus you only pay for the one day that you use it. Also, we (Oak Hill Scuba) have 6.5 wetsuits where as most Houston shops will likely only have 3mm.

Nah, I am bringing my gear. All I'll need is tanks and weights. I'll be diving in my drysuit. :D
