A 7 mm will work fine if the outside temp is warm. I tend to get colder on the surface than under the water.
You may want to bring a few gallons of hot water to pour down the wet suit to warm yourself up after a dive. Works like a charm.
Also make sure that you bring a large coat to put on during the surface interval .
