Catgirldiver,

My husband & I spent a week in Cozumel in January. Amazing diving! We bought a 4-day package with Dive With Martin. They were amazing, & picked us up at the pier right in front of our hotel every morning, afternoon, & even for one night dive. Plus, they allow you to do all the free shore diving that you want in front of the International Pier, which costs $6 cab to get there. The area is roped off & doesn't look like much above the water... but once you get under the water, you could easily spend a full day here.

If Martin will pick you up, you simply have to call them from your hotel room once you get there, to confirm your dive dates.

Have an amazing time.... I wish I could join you !!!!!!!!!!

Yes, but how many of us are old enough to get the Alice's Restaurant reference? ;^)

Wristshot:
Fly to Cancun.
Fill out paperwork on the airplane.
Go through the airport to Imigration, show passport
Go get your Bags at Baggage Claim
Show Claim Tickets to leave roped off area with bags.
Head toward Customs / Exit.
If you wind up flying into the charter terminal, things digress here:

You will stop at a Traffic Light in the terminal. You press a button and either the green light comes on and you go through, or the red light comes on, and you get Inspected, detected, Neglected etc etc.

Exit the airport through an amazing gauntlet of hundreds trying to sell you transportation.

Take a deep breath because it will be hot outside.

Go through the crowd and head to the main entrance of the terminal, it will be the second exit you come to, not the first. And wait for the shuttle to the main terminal. Take the shuttle and when you arrive head left facing the building.

You are looking for the big Red Rivera buses all the way at the end of the walkway. Buy a Rivera ticket from the agent staning at the entrance to the area with busses.

From here continue with Wristshot's directions:

Wristshot:
Find the bus driver, confirm the bus is going to Playa, and he will put your bags in the compartment under the bus. Get on the bus, staying on the passenger side if you want to keep an eye on who or what comes and goes from that side of the bus. The buses leave at quarter til the hour. (they may run more often, but that is the time I have always found them to leave at) Settle in for a 45 ride to Playa Del Carmen. The bus is comfortable and well air-conditioned. No pigs or chickens or anything, a real bus. There will most likely be a video playing during the trip, but it will be subtitled or dubbed in Spanish, and the trip is not long enough to see the whole thing.

...that catgirldiver is staying in the northern hotel zone. DWM nor any other shop picks up at Melia Hotel. Cab ride charges will vary, but from Melia into town will run $6 to $8 each way. To the international pier from Melia will be $10 - $12 (you are crossing 2 zones) From Melia to the Caleta will be around $15 (possibly more).

Christi:
Hotels and dive shops do not provide transportation as part of your package.
As I mentioned when I dove SDS out of the Northern Zone they did cover the cab fare, but only if there were 4 or more divers going. It looks like that policy has changed.

My husband and I just booked our first trip to Coz at the
Melia Cozumel. I have no idea where they are located and the hotel dive shop said that they don't include transportation so we would have to take a taxi to get to the boat. Does anyone know of a good dive shop where transportation is included or do you suggest taking a taxi to a dive shop in town???

Does anyone know where I can get a map of Cozumel online? The page is not available everywhere I have tried.

We are flying in to Cancun and I think I have the route to Coz down. First we get on the shuttle (does the price need to be negotiated or is it a set price) and ride it to Playa De Carmen then we take the ferry (I printed out the schedule) then we find a taxi (after prenegotiating the fare) to take us to the Melia Cozumel. Right? Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance for your help and advice,
Catgirldiver

My wife and I will be staying at the El Cozumeleno August 15 to the 22nd, which is right next door and to the south of the Melia. Scuba Du services the El Cozumeleno so you could probably use them as they pick you up right a the El Cozumeleno's pier. I am still in the process of getting info on Scuba Du so I cannot make any recommendations other than they are Close so you would not have to take a taxi to town everyday. I have more information on Scuba Du if you want to email me with any questions. As far as your other questions, all can be found easily enough on line. Have a great trip

double checked, my bad, there is no direct ferry from Cancun to Cozumel...It seemes like last time i was in Coz there was one going there, but now that I think about it, the cruise ships had ferries coming down to the international pier and although they had Cancun as their home port on the boat, I belive they were going to Playa.
sorry 'bout that.
I've talked to some folks that have done the Cancun to Coz thing, be patient and enjoy the adventure is the general advice I've gotten.
Have a great trip,
The SHARK

Gordon,

--*laughing*--
I hate to admit it, but I had to reread my post to remember what reference I had used from Alice's Restaurant. It is just part of my (our) lexicon, so things like that just kind of slip into everyday conversations on occasion.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming. . . . . (sorry for the almost hijack)

W

BTW Christi, your web site does not list your location (street address). I considered stopping by to say hello when I was there earlier this month but I wasn't sure where your shop was. I did see a couple of your boats taking their SI at Playa Palancar, but I did not see you.

An Alice's Restaurant reference and it's not even Thanksgiving!

Yes I'm that old...
