How long does it take to get there by taxi that and the cost of the taxi was my only concern can taxis be shared by multiple people and do they have van taxis? I have heard that the southern area is the best what specifically is better versus Mahabhal? Thanks

I have only used a rental car out on CUN (4 1/2 Hrs. on good safe paved roads) so I do not know the cost and time with a taxi, again it's a good road and 90 Km/HR is not out of line down from Mahahal. I would contact the XTC dive center and see if something could be set up ahead of time. If there are enough divers in the group they might be able to pick you up in a van or pre arrange transportation for you. The big question would be the time in port of your ship. The best dive I did was La Poza and La Chimenea and the two tank dive, with surface interval takes 4 hrs., from the dock back to the dock. With everything set up in advance including paperwork I think it would take about 7 hrs. to do the trip, minimum. Most cruise lines I have heard of spend a minimum time in port so they can get their captives back to the bar and Casino so I think the time in port is the limiting factor. Again the best source of info would be to E-mail XTC (reserve@xtcdivecenter.com) and see what they recommend. They are a great and very professional group, off the grid and at the end of the world (or at least Mexico).

Sounds good. Thanks for the information. I was wondering about other dive shops. I have heard that Gypsea was good but I have sent two emails without a response. I also heard of a resort called the palms or something like that that was good as well. thanks

It usually takes several days to hear back from Gypsea.
Some shops do not have every day clerical work, and the more remote like this one - the less likely.

A cruise can be a way to dive different locations and get a taste of each, but don't press your time & location limits too much. It'd be hell to miss the boat, or have a wreck trying to get back in time. Just look forward to going back to places and exploring more later on.

I think that that is what I will do. It sounds like that southern dive sites are 7 hours which would put me within 15-30 minutes in time getting on the boat before it takes off. thanks for the advice.

Sounds good. I saw the dive shop on one of the websites it looks really laid back and definitely a place that I would like to check out. thanks Eric
