Going to Cairns Australia next week any sujestions on what dive tour operators to use in that area??

There are heaps of operators there - depends what you want - day trips, short liveaboards, long liveaboards, luxury boats etc - have a look at www.diveoz.com.au in the Australian trips section. Broadly, my experience is that safety standards are generally very high, but the quality of the boats and trips varies widely. If you are flexible in timing and want to do a liveaboard there are huge discounts if you book on the spot in Cairns, rather than prebooking. And try and get to the Coral Sea and Northern Reefs, much better diving than the day boats.

While in town, check out "Reef Teach". For diving you could use Pro-Dive, we used them for a four night liveabaord to the Coral Sea. If you are in town allot of times you can find deals just by checking with the different operators such as Mike Ball or the liveaboard "Taka". The operators all have shops on the main drag area and are not hard to find. A number of liveaboards operate out of Port Douglas, we took a Quicksilver boat to Port Douglas from Cairns and then left from the main marina on the "Diversity".
There's plenty to do in and around the Cairns area, I hope you have a blast!

Try www.underwater.com.au as well. A lot of dive shops and liveaboard operators give good discounts or add value to underwater.com.au club members - and membership is open to everyone.

Its difficult to find the "best" dive shop / day boat / liveaboard in Cairns as there are so many. But you will find generally you get what you pay for ...
