I ask becaus I am getting set to go on vacation to West Palm Beach for some diving.
My gear is just getting to heavy to take on vacation. I pack all of my gear except back gas, then alot of extras. I have 3 divers on this trip.
I pack a save a dive kit and tools, an extra full reg set up, extra lp hoses ,hp hose with gauge, extra 2nd stage, mask, 2 lights, camera, transfer fill whip, spare wing, service kits for the regs, compass, computer, smb's , lift bag, and alot of little things.
This being prepared thing that I have is getting out of hand.
As a kid and young man the Boy Scout way was how I did things. Now that I'm 51 and not as strong as I was at 18 the extra gear is taking its toll .
What do you bring that is extra for a dive trip ?
I have 1 week to weed things out, or I need to find a time machine to make me 18 again.
Thanks, Jim Breslin

You have quite a few dive shops in and around West Palm Beach that are only minutes from the diving. In a pinch, you could rent or buy most anything if you had a failure. I would take your save-a-dive kit and a good multi-tool. Now if I were going to a remote location, I'd consider being a boy scout and packing the kitchen sink.

You're not going on a liveaboard far away from shore. There are plenty of dive shops around WPB. I wouldn't take anything extra for a trip like that, except maybe extra o-rings for my camera housing. If I'm flying to some isolated location and will be on a boat for a week then I also take an extra mask, extra Doc's Pro-plugs and maybe something else that I can't think of right now.

I think 1 spare set of regs is more than sufficent. Lose the rest of the LP/ HP hoses and guages. The spare computer isn't bad. Unless you are on a recovery expedition, you will have no use for that lift bag. Most places do not let you take things.

Not only your own strength, but also with airline restrictions, I always advocate minimal weight.

On a side note, If you havent already booked a charter, I have always loved Coral Island Charters there in West Palm.

Like the others said: If your close to alot of shops, my kit would be my credit card. Remote area, take a dive shop.:D

WPB?

I pack a spare credit card and mask. Everything else can be easily had.

The spare mask is because I could easily spend a whole day trying to find one that fits.

That seems like a HUGE amount of backups. I would say the save a dive kit, extra o-rings, extra batteries if the batteries are user-replaceable and the mask (finding a good new one can be tough at times). It sounds like you will be close enough to get most things.

I did do a search on eBay for you on time machines, but nothing of note popped up... bummer.

:rofl3:

Since you're from Illinois, I would guess you don't dive full-foot fins, so extra fin straps might be nice if you have 'em already. I also second the motion on the extra mask, as it wouldn't be out of the question for a tank to fall on your mask and ruin a dive.

My wife uses me and whatever gear I have on me as her save-a-dive kit. Real Life Example: "Oh, you dropped your flashlight on the last dive? Here you go, honey!" I love her and it's fine, but if you see me diving with one fin, no BC, hugging a tank and sucking air directly from the tank valve because I don't have a regulator, all the while trying desperately to keep up with a beautiful redhead, now you know why.

Seriously? I personally don't take much more than extra fin strap, extra mask, extra mask strap, and scuba tool. Maybe some zip ties which I usually use for locking my suitcase and a zip tie replacement if necessary. If your straps are in good shape, don't sweat those.

Happy Good Friday!
