We are going to be hitting Belize City, Roatan Island and Cozumel. I will be with a non-diving wife and 2 non-diving children. My wife would prefer if I could find a place to shore dive where her and the kids can snorkel.

I'll be bringing my on stuff but needed to find a place to pick up tanks (I guess I could bring my own tanks but I would prefer not to)

Any suggestions?

Thanks

If you are doing Carnival and hitting Roatan, Belize, Cozumel, aren't you also hitting Grand Cayman?

Belize they tender out and I don't think there is anything (shore) in Belize City. (been to Belize on three cruises and still have not set foot on land)

Don't think there is anything in Roatan either.

Cozumel is possable depending on where the ship comes in.

Grand Cayman if you going there check out Eden Rock, or Wall to Wall or Lobster Pot Divers.

I am doing a Carnival trip end of May and wife etc, can do what they want in the various ports, I'll see them pleanty onboard ship

The ship won't let you bring a tank on board. There is no place you could shore dive on Coz that the wife and kids would want to hang out. All the nice beaches have nothing shore-divable and all the shore dive sites are rock beaches.

You are going to have to decide whether you want to dive, or spend time with the family at port. You could always pick a port or two to dive and do the family thing the rest of the time.

OK-sounds good. Thanks for the info. I always knew that a cruise was not the best vacation for diving. Now I have to decide if I am going to be happy snorkeling over the reef or not.

I am looking forward to the day when my kids are old enough to go diving with me.

You might check with Barefoot Divers on Roatan. They offer a cruise dive program and guests can snorkel off the beach at Barefoot Cay.

You'll go via boat to the divesites though. If you dive Mary's Place (recommended) your kids can see your boat from shore - it's just on the other side of the fringing reef/breakwater.
