The monopod was a great success for me. Scubaboard to the rescue once again.

Here's what's great -

- 180-degree views. I've never been able to get shots of myself and buddy like this. Really happy with the results.
- Great for getting into nooks and crannies, around corners, in kelp.
- Critters are curious! We had garibaldi, sheepshead and some sea lions come right up and check out the camera. Which makes for some great dramatic moments.

I got the Mako monopod. It's been great for the most part. Lightweight, very compact when condensed all the way. Only problem is rusting. We soaked in fresh water and that protected the telescoping pole. But the screw to connect to tripod mount got rusty (can be cleaned off). And the tilt-head became too encrusted/rusted/tight (not sure what happened) to adjust and became locked in one place. Opened it back up with a wrench and now it cannot be tightened all the way.

Not sure if I soaked long enough in fresh water.

Might try the GoPole which appears to be more purpose-built for salt water.

Recent video. GoPro is pretty effing amazing.
