Got out today for a dive at the Gloucester Breakwater. It was my first time at the site and I'm definitely going back again. We parked at the parking lot and practically walked right in and dove the inside. We were considering diving the outside but due to the entry and boat traffic decided to do the inside.
Conditions were great, 18-20 ft viz and the temp at 19ft was a balmy 41-43. We dove for 40 minutes stopping halfway to float on the surface before going back down and heading back (I was wet and used it to warm up)
There were a few crabs and one lone bug. TONS of anemones, they seemed to be in every crack that I looked into. This is one of my new favorite spots, but I'm thinking that due to fishermen during the summer it would be mainly an early or late season location. It would probably make for a great night dive but parking would be an issue as the lot "closes" at dusk. There was a lot of trash at the bottom; tons of tires, fish crates, plastic bags, bottles and the like. Next time I go I'm probably going to be bringing a catch bag to fill with trash.
