I just read that a new Guinness record of 2,486 divers in the water was set in Jakarta. I was down in Key Largo during Gilboa's first try at the record but thought there was a real good chance that I'd be there for a new record in 2010. Anyone think there is any possibility the GLWC & Gilboa can recruit 2,500 divers and get them in the quarry? I want to stay optimistic but Jakarta has set the bar pretty high.

They even opened up the country's flag underwater.

I think Gilboa is going to need a bigger parking lot for next years attempt.

It may be that I don't have enough vision, but I can't see them being able to come close to the new record. It was in the range of 'doable' when the record was 958. But with the record now 2,486 ... I just can't see it.

Do you think everyone who prepaid Mike will get their money back?

I think we're still good to go as Mike's going for the most divers down at once In a Quarry... as opposed to Ocean/Lake...

 No he wasn't. The record is the most people scuba diving simultaneously. It has nothing to do with where they do it. The previous record he was trying to beat was in the ocean. Last time I checked the Maldives (holders of the previous record of 958) didn't have a quarry.

There was some discussion of trying to see if Guinness would break it down into Fresh vs Salt water. This is the first I've heard of quarry vs Ocean vs. Lake, etc.

Seems a bit silly to me, but that's just my opinion. If the world record is unattainable, just admit it and move on. To use a sports analogy, sometimes you just gotta admit that the game has elevated to the point that you can't compete any longer.
