Was that on the pier of the Caribe Hilton Hotel?

I did that entry many times back in the 70's. I have no idea how high it really was, but I always liked the entry and the dive. The exit was a bit of a pain.
And of course, we always felt that someday someone was going to stop us as we carried our gear through the Caribe Hilton Hotel.

It looks like a lot of things have changed in the last 30+ years, but the pier is still there.

The trick to me was to time the jump with the wave action. And you had to jump to the left of the pier or you were going to end up on top of some corals.

Yes, it was the Caribe Hilton. [ When I posted, I didn't completly recall the name of the hotel, as I did not stay there.]

As you said, a lot has probably changed, but I recall walking along a path towards the pier, onto a "boardwalk" type path, and thinking "we're getting further from the surface." The DM did tell us to "time your jump to the waves".
After the dive, one of the divers asked how high the platform was, and the DM said "about 5 meters".

I recall exiting from the dive, and having to make our way (crawl??) across some sharp and unfriendly rocks.They were not deep enough to swim over, and the wave breaking action just added to the fun. As you said, a bit of a pain.

Yuck. I'll stick to shore diving if that's the alternative.

I've never had the "pleasure" of taking a giant giant stride and I don't really feel the need to do so. 5' and under is just fine.

10 foot entry off of ships fairly common, fairly easy. Climbing up a friggin rope ladder sucked.

Getting in and doing the dive has always been the easy part, getting out presents challenges.

You're right about Oil Slick Leap. I'm terrified of heights and to look down over the ledge made my heart pound, especially while wearing all the gear and fins and already feeling unsteady. Once I did it, I realized that it was a piece of cake. Not really that high at all. I would probably go even higher (10-15ft), but I don't have any "man-berries" to worry about! LOL, I like that term, Wildcard!

Only for training. Other than that there would be no need to do it from there unless for some reason the deck was getting much closer. The boys tingle all the way down.
