I've done 2m (just over 6ft) with twin 12s and crotch strap. It wasnt too bad but not convinced id want to try higher.

Slight variation on this, whats the highest anyone has had to backward roll in ?
Dived off a strange design charter boat a few years ago where entry involved sitting on the railing and backward rolling off. About 6ft drop to the water. That was FAR more painful than the giant stride and hurt the ears as well.

A high giant stride with a fully inflated wing and tight crotch strap is quite an experience.
That reminds me of an old song I think Connie Stevens did. "Where the boys are". You'd be looking for them for a long long time. :D

In Puerto Rico, about 30 yrs ago, we did a giant stride from approx. 15 ft above the surface. The tricky part was climbing over the split rail fence at the edge of the platform, in full gear.
The DM asked us-on the way to the platform"are you all ok with "elevated entries".....
Nice time to ask. :)

If you mean legs spread, giant stride entry, no more than a few feet. If you mean a feet first entry with legs together, (best to enter the water heels first, leaning back just a dash) practiced that off a 5 meter platform and done it also from helicopters, I’d guess 40 to 50 feet.

I too have made some high entries "live boating" anywhere from 20-40 feet...in the gulf as a hat diver, sl17a...back in the early 90's.....one hand on the top of the hat looking foreward and one on the "jewles"....keep the legs closed on those ones...
pipe lay inspection behind a lay barge.....then there was the "little" lift boat ....geeze that one sucked that was 20+ feet and where I learned to keep the legs closed( .)(. )

Was that on the pier of the Caribe Hilton Hotel?

I did that entry many times back in the 70's. I have no idea how high it really was, but I always liked the entry and the dive. The exit was a bit of a pain.
And of course, we always felt that someday someone was going to stop us as we carried our gear through the Caribe Hilton Hotel.

Edit: I found this aerial picture in their web site. The pier in on the top of the picture.
It looks like a lot of things have changed in the last 30+ years, but the pier is still there.

The trick to me was to time the jump with the wave action. And you had to jump to the left of the pier or you were going to end up on top of some corals.

Used to do them from the old Fredrickstead Peir on St Croix all the time 25-30 feet to be cool for the tourists but got smart and started tossing in the tank/bc then striding,
just check the current first.
Way better than climbing the ladder in gear up or down.

Never did it wearing fins would hold them across the chest.
