Hey, I heard a rumor there are some Humboldt squid hanging out in Monterey. Anyone have any real info on this?

Its all over in the Bay Area news.

saw it on nbc national news tonight

Are squid anywhere near as intelligent as octopusses (btw, it can be spelled octopi or octopusses)?

The dictionary states that both octopuses and octopi are recognized plurals.

It's difficult to keep open ocean, squid alive long enough to do learning experiments. When startled, that is when lights turn on or when placing dip nets in tanks, the squids giant axon fires and they tend to beat themselves to death on the side of the aquarium tank.

Cuttlefish, a close relative to squid, seem to be as intelligent as octopuses.

In Austria they told they are dangerouse for divers, pulling the diver down.
I have serious doubts about that. Someone know something?

Austria has giant squid? hmm... never knew...
