u don't have to do too much Friend. just pay attention at the person u dive with every 1.5 minute. especially if u dive in USA, Aussie or Africa. even here, in Mediterranean i look up for my wife every 30-40 seconds. moreover, if the sharks're present in the environment u dive in, no sounds or lights're recommended.

I made some real cheap noise makers by soldering some caps on a small piece of copper pipe 3"x1/2" or 3"x3/4" and added some small nuts on the inside, they tuck nicely inside of a wetsuit or skin sleeve. You can hear the clacking from some distance but the problem is you can`t tell the location, here in NJ that is our biggest problem.

2 things I've seen. (noise makers)

a) 1" pvc about 4" long with 3 ss nuts, and caps on both ends. rattle noise. (forget how they attached it to b/c...)

b) bungy cord with a plastic ball (like a tent bungy), stretched over bottom of tank... pull the ball and let it snap the tank... pretty loud..

if you need your buddys attention, NOW, make noise...

if it can wait, signal.
