Just wondering. At this moment I still have my OW and never been down below 25m. I've heard that the change of getting narced will be around 30m... Now I'm wondering, how does it feel to be narced?

Can you compare it to, let say, being stoned smoking pot? I know the feeling of being high or stoned, but never been narced u/w, at least that's what I think, although I did feel kinda fuzzy after the 2nd dive). I'm sure I will be on my next divetrip (at least I want to experience the sensation :D ), but if you can relate it to being stoned, maybe it's easier to deal with?

As I stated, just wondering. How do you people experience being narced u/w, like talking to the fishies or wondering why they don't create bubbles;) ?

It's more like doing a whippet.

So I'm told ;)

more like somebody just woke you up from a deep sleep..and you are not computing with full ram yet....thick.

Sometimes on long shallow dives, I get this "other" thing more like zen or meditation, where the colors get really bright and my senses seem amplified. That is the good high. I think that comes from mindful breathing and focusing, and your "monkey brain" gets shut down. Honestly, that is the big attraction for many people that I know. People who enjoy altered consciousness but do not want to do drugs.

The deep thing that I get is a dopey-ness, where I have to be on guard against stupidity, usually by following some pre-set rules for myself. I liken it to drinking, driving, knowing your limit. For example. I know if I have had two and no food, not to drive. One is okay. So, I know not to go below 100 solo, etc. And when it seems like a great idea to go to 140 and deeper on air, that I am being stupid. I think I first noticed it as a new diver, when I was a bit apprehensive at 80 ft, but a few minutes at 100 and I was willing to do anything and yet nothing concrete had changed.

It's not like being stoned, it's just being happy and a little fuzzy. I don't even notice anything untill well past 130.

I would say no - on my AOW dive our instructor had us work combination locks at the surface - just a few seconds to open, no problems. At 75' I could not get the lock open before a few trys. Would not have known that there was anything different about me had it not been for trying to open that lock. Narc'd? maybe, maybe not but even at 90' - 110' in the Caymans I didn't really "feel" different or strange.

Ive been to 110 cruising the deck of a wreck and felt fine, Ive been in the 90s and felt a bit fuzzed, I once hit 119 and did not like it! I felt something was wrong, checked my spg, checked my breathing, checked my pulse, checked my computer, and still felt something was wrong, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I came up about 20 feet and felt fine. I personally feel agitated, and my thought process slows down, I finally realized there was something wrong with my computer but couldn't figure out what. Somehow it was switched to gauge mode and I didn't realize. Ive never done drugs so I can't really comment on that, I've been drunk a few times but felt totally different. When I drink I just get happy and laugh alot. I do not like the feeling of being narced.

Oh yeah, I did a math test on land then again at ~90 feet or so. All 3 of us students finished faster under water! The scary part is all 3 of us got a wrong answer though.

It's different for everyone. Some people act stoned, some get very scared. I have had the experience of being slightly stoned and I've also had tunnel vision while being hyper aware of what was going on around me. Be very careful, it can be different on each dive. There is no way to know how you will react until you have been there. If you are going to put yourself in that position take some classes in deep diving, dive with a buddy that knows what to expect and look for and be very careful. Work up to it. Don't just bounce to 150' without planning for it.

Cold water narcosis can be a lot different than warm water. The teeniest bit of uneasiness can be magnified even to the point of terror. I had one really bad experience where I didn't want the regulator anymore, sort of like a snake or broccoli I didn't want it anywhere near me. I knew it was functioning just fine but part of me was saying "Spit it out and go for the surface, just exhale all the way you'll be fine." I was all set to "blow and go" when my training caught up and screamed "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?" I realized I was narced and we ascended from 70 feet to 50 and all those funky scary feelings went away.
