High seas what are these toe shoes you speak of, From all my diving everyday I have plantar fascities really bad and exercise is best and also not being overweight, I where the Zcoil cause of this, this is why I ask.
 
I was mega sea sick on the boat and puking like crazy.

This changes if you are vomiting or having diarrhea, or are on diuretic medications.

I did not say that potassium deficiency was his only problem. As with almost any issue there are multiple contributing factors.

In his case I would venture a guess at these as causes:

Dehydration from vomiting, Salt exposure, Sun exposure, Possibly drinking (I dont know if Racerx drinks and by no means am I assuming he drinks excessively)
Potassium deficiency from vomiting and possible diet (again only a contributing factor)
Muscle overexertion
 
Yeah I'm sure the vomiting wasn't helping at all. I didn't have cramping problems in Puget sound wearing a lot of weight and neoprene but this was the third dive in a row in phuket.

No I don't drink, for what its worth ha. Either way, its good input all around will start trying to do some conditioning, while drinking Gatorade full of dissolved bananas LOL..
 
Go to a step and on ball of foot raise then sink down past step, do a lot of them

it may be you're just finning too hard. Hydration may have been a factor too
If you think those aren't legitimate possibilities,
consider different fins. Some just work you harder than others.

try swimming without fins if fins are not allowed.

General conditioning will help, but targeting your calves during workouts would be best. Stretch stretch stretch. Also, if you can take some Gatorade on the boat that would be a big help.


When I lived in Florida and was on or in the water every day I had the chance I was doing the calf exercise, Swim/walk/run, and eating a couple bananas on a daily basis along with doing my best to stay hydrated and I never had a cramp in 6 years (I had a couple when I was very dehydrated). I know that my experience was my experience and your body will differ from mine but thats what worked for me and it might work for you.


edit: You got your reply in while I was working on mine (I know Im slow) What did you eat or do different in phuket than puget sound? Gatorade with dissolved bananas lol Ill have to try that one.

VooDoo, google vibram five fingers (I would give the link but not sure exactly how on an iPad). They help mimic bare foot walking/running with emphasis on contact with ball of feet first. Plantar fasciatas is the reason I tried these and they have helped in conjunction with lots of stretching of the calves. You have to ease in to them though - Achilles and calves need to be broken in. Don't necessarily have to be used only for running to benefit from.
 
High seas I will search for when get time, But thanks for letting me know why you as I thought it might have to do with Plantar fasciatas. The most useful thing I learned is to have your feet hang over the bed, so it wont lay while sleeping, the best thing as It is almost non Issue now for a year or so, and when I work I work every day almost so Zcoil was what I had to do, This last project I worked 541 days straight and one time almost, wearing regular boots and shoes, I buy new boots and shoes every 2 Months, of around $400, so about 5 grand in foot wear and hang over end of bed, and did hundreds of hours of diving this year.
 
I go to the Y pool a couple times a week and do 1000 yards in laps. This keeps me going.
 
Voodoogasman - a few years ago I developed plantar fasciatis as well. I did a few things to help. I lost about 30 pounds, and then I started wearing either Dansko's or heels. A guy can wear Dansko's, but heels can be a little tricky! Cowboy boots have enough of a heel to be of benefit for me. If I wear cheap flip flops or go barefoot I get another flare-up. When I teach and have to be on my feet for several hours at a time I wear my cowboy boots - otherwise I'm in pain. I think that these shoes/boots help to stretch out the specific ligament/muscle that causes the pain. Or maybe it's just magic - or in my head - but it works. My sister also has this condition and she has used a bottle of ice (use the curvy shaped plastic coke bottle) and rolled her foot on it - it helps to relieve her pain.
