Would appreciate any help or advice from anyone who knows how to go about doing this. I go to UVA and just want to get the measly 2 credits for completing my dive master course which I dont think is asking a lot. Does anyone know how to go about convincing my university to allow this as my 2 phys ed credits?

Heres the email I sent today to the person in charge of electives
"Ms. Gloria Gates,

I am curious how I can go about receiving credit for the PADI dive master course that I plan on taking this summer. ACE recommends this course as 2 college credits as it is an intensive month long program with lots of exams. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

"

And heres the response

"I'm sorry to say that your dive master course won't transfer toward your degree in the College of Arts and Sciences unless you enroll via an accredited degree granting institution."

Is my university misinformed? Its not a private college so I am a bit surprised but I dont want to give up here.

I teach an 8 week PADI Open Water course for Colorado State University which is worth 1 credit in Health Sciences. There are specific hours and guidelines required by the university that must be followed in addition to the PADI curriculum.

The Dive Master course is much more involved and should count towards college credits.
I would suggest working with your Instructor for communication with the college, and together calling or emailing the PADI offices for specific advice.

It's possible in theory but there will be a lot of hoops the course instructor will need to jump through for the college to grant credit, they tend to be very hesitant to do so unless the course is sponsored by the college itself.

Normally colleges like to have pretty tight control on facilities, faculty and curriculum.

Bah I appreciate the responses. Ya from reading the Padi website this seemed like it would be no problem. I mean I would think the Divemaster course would be a more legit 2 credits then say if I took two tennis courses here at UVA. I guess I should call padi and see whats up. Damn this a major let down, was going to justify my vacation :(

I bet im just in my final stretch in getting my degree and need every credit I can get. I have all my major requirements done just need to crack away at 18 more whatever credits.

Im shocked Padi advertises the college credit thing if its soo hard to do

Give em a call tomorrow, maybe they know the trick in getting the colleges to go along.

PADI dm course is ACE accredited...its up to the individual college to accept it..many do.Call PADi for course transcripts and follow it up from there.

Hey ya I know that it says its ACE accredited. But it seems to my university at least that being ACE accredited doesnt mean much unless I take the class from a university. Ugh this sucks
