It varies a lot from person to person. For example, Rick Murchison says he dives his doubled LP85s in a drysuit with NO additional weight. For the same tanks, I carry 16 pounds and weight check right on.

I'm 5'9", 130 pounds
I dive freshwater, wear 7mm suit with hood and wear 20 pounds for now.
I expect that with more experience I'll be able to wear less.

Fresh Water, 5/4mm full, 7mm hooded vest, DR Transpac, Canlight (about 2 lbs negative), double AL 80, 10 pounds of lead. Could likely trim that by 2-3 pounds.

Fresh Water, 5/4 full, 7mm hooded vest, 2 pound backplate, no canlight, single AL 80, 4 pounds of lead.

Salt Water, 3/2 shorty, Transpac, no canlight, single AL 80, 2 pounds worked.. could probably trim to 1 pound but the resort didn't have those

I wonder what type of undergarments he is wearing and what water temps he is diving in.

im wearing a 7mm farmer john,booties, hood, gloves, and a steel 80. i wear about 24lbs around my waist, and about 2lbs in my bc pocket. next dive im going to loose the bc weight cuz i think i just a tad heavy.

Salt water in a 3mm

26 lbs lead (with an AL80) ...but I've never done a comprehensive weight check since I've gotten more comfortable as a diver down there so I MAY be a bit heavy...

I always find this a pretty pointless discussion because there are so many variables.

I find that I need to add 2 lbs just getting away from shore. Extra salinity?

But for interests sake, I use lots of lead. Loads

28 lbs on a DUI weight & trim with a 6 lb backplate _and_ Turtles (which are 3 lbs negative). And that is perfect weight as it allows me to keep just enough air in my suit to keep a tad warm at 5 fsw with 500 psi in my tank. Any less and I need to let the suit compress all my undies.

Oh, I'm 6'1" weigh 195 lbs and use 200 weight undies under a bag suit with an additional layer of fleece under that...

When in fresh water I usually use a 3mm wetsuit with hood....I can use anywhere from 8-12 pounds to get down.

In salt water I use 10-12, unless I dive a thicker suit and I always add about 2-4 pounds for that.
