How much weight does everyone use. I read an article in the scuba diver mag about diving with little to no weight. I wanted to see what everyone uses with what equipment.

To answer your question, I use enough dense mass to offsent my buoyancy. I really don't care about numbers (other than for repeatabiltiy) because the quantity really doesn't matter. You carry what 'YOU' need for the gear you use. Anyone who brags about how much or how little wieght they carry has missed the boat on the optimal balanced rig.

For the record - Drysuit dbl 104's - nothing
Drysuit single 80 - 32lbs ±2lbs (don't dive this config anymore)
Skin dbl 80's - nothing
7mm shorty dbl 80 - nothing

My rig is balanced and trimmed. It's a 6lb SS plate + 55lb wing or a jacket BC for singles. (almost never dive them)

I am 1m75 75kg

Salt water, speedo, AL: 1kg
Salt water, 3mm, AL : 3kg
Sweet water, 7mm+hood+booties, Steel, 6kg
Salt water, 7mm+hood+booties, Steel, 8kg

My idea is the lesser the better, with experience (the little I have), start with the classical test and then try to remove a bit after a while if you feel comfortable.

in_cavediver: what do you mean by 7mm shorty? You dive in cold water with a thick wet suit but arms and legs in contact with the water?

I am 6'3" 255lb. With a 3mm full Henderson suit I use 20lb on a belt. Using just a skin, I use 18lb.

I have a basic BCD with no backplate or other weight to it.

I dive a one piece 9/7/6 Xcel Polar Xtreme wetsuit, aluminum BP/wing and steel 100cf tank and am currently using 24-26 pounds in a DUI Weight and Trim II harness for salt water.

The weight all depends on what gear you use and where you dive.

For me I have a BP/W with an 8 lb weight plate on it. So, the lead I carry varies from 0 lbs to 13 lbs depending on the wetsuit or the drysuit undergarment I wear that day. This is for fresh water.

Most divers are similar, the weights vary all over the board.

5'10" and 170 (give or take). I typically dive tropical liveaboard and wear a 3/2 full suit and sometimes a hooded vest. I wear a belt with 10lbs on it (12 if I use the hooded vest).

I'm a tad (technical word) heavy at that level but for photography that is often a plus.

5'10 215 BP/W SS BP,
PST 119 HP
Drysuit, 200g fleece undies

4-8 pounds... only for trim... (floaty feet)

I just started reducing weight the last few dives... I only carry 10 lbs now with my jacket bcd, 5mm wetsuit... and AL 80.

You will have to experiment yourself. Basically, a couple of pounds at a time.

My instructor (for my AOW) had doubts that I could get under the surface. I had no problems with my descent (had to breathe out for the first 3 feet), then needed very little air in my BCD to maintain neutral buoyancy.

I am 6'2", about 240 lb. In saltwater, with 7mm fullsuit with hooded vest, gloves, single steel tank, I am usually wearing about 22 lb. With a 3mm fullsuit, I am usually at about 12 lb. It can vary a couple lbs because I do a lot of "fine tuning".
