I had a belt come loose last year at 105'. I caught it - fortunately.

I have since gone to a steel tank, and now need a grand total of 2lbs of weight with my BP+Wing+STA+Steelie with a 3 mil jumpsuit.

Works great, and I love it.

If I have to ditch at the surface, I will ditch the KIT. With the wetsuit on I'll be a dozen pounds positive, and I don't need the tank and reg on the surface.

Ditching underwater, IMHO, it not an option, and accidentally ditching is a recipe for disaster.

because it makes the BP/W fit better. I don't even know it's there. But I do always wear a wetsuit, since I get cold so easily in the water, no matter what the temperature is.

I also feel more secure at the surface; I don't have that feeling of it riding up and around my ears.

Chose your poison. The one thing I am not particularly fond of with a BP/Wing set-up is the need to use a weight-belt. I could use the weight pockets now sold by Halcyon, but that would clutter up space I like for d-rings and other gear. Some feel that by putting the croth strap over the weights will catch a belt that unexpectantly falls off during a dive. I could get my belt off in pretty good shape even with it under the strap.

I have used a weight belt and thought that it was kind of a poor method when the MC/BP system is so refinded.

I bought the ABC 20 weighting system and have found it easy to use and very streamlined.

Now my rig in a single piece, neat and compact.

The ACB comes with a D'riing so you wont be missing one on the left, but on the right if you use a canister then maybe you need to modify it for a second buckle or go for the ACB 30 which comes with a buckle for the canister.

=-)

Genesis is right, and wearing the weight belt under the strap makes ditching not an option. I am proberly weighted and with the 9 pounds neg FredT plate that I have combined with the steel 120, I don't have to wear much weight at all, especially in the summer. Once I kicked myself up 10 ft I'd be on a rocket ride to the surface with the weight belt, assuming I didn't let any air out. I see a weight belt falling off as a far more likely risk than the need to ditch, especially if your prudent and check your gauges and have redundant gear when diving deep.

OK, another silly question. The harness rig that the wing uses, can it easily be taken off while in the water and put back on? I do a lot of kelp diving and I have on a number of occasions had to remove my rig and swing it around my shoulder to remove an entanglement. This has proven easy with a Dacor Rig due ti the way it hooks up. Could it be done with a BP? Thanks, still in the considering mode.

If adjusted correctly if should be fine.

Well this has been an educational and interesting thread. I was wondering about trying a split straddle harness for my Zeagle bc and now, based on what has been said here, I think I will. :)

Not a big fan of the Zeagles any more (because of how bouyant they are) but the crotch strap on them makes a world of difference. It allows you to loosen the shoulder straps to position the bc where you want it.
