German tourist dies after diving | Sun.Star
A GERMAN tourist died while scuba diving in the waters off Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte last Saturday.
PO3 Victor Avenido, investigator of Daanbantayan Police Station, said Bettina Kohl Dumke, 54, of Russelsheim, Germany was diving with her husband Karl Erich, 54.
After the couple resurfaced together with their dive master Rickniel Monteclar, Bettina experienced discomfort.
She even apologized that she stayed in the water only for a few minutes. After asking for water while on board a motorized banca, Bettina collapsed.
Bettina was rushed to the Daanbantayan District Hospital in Cebu, but she didn't make it alive. The attending physician Dr. Feil Ybañez couldn't determine yet Bettina's cause of her death.
When interviewed by police, Karl Erich said Bettina was reportedly not feeling well.
Daanbantayan police advised Karl Erich to let his wife undergo autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The dive tank and octopus regulator, which Bettina used, are now in police custody and will also be checked.
The couple stayed in Malapascua Island in Daanbantayan. They left for Kalanggaman Island at 8:30 a.m. last Saturday on board a motorized banca owned by Seaquest Dive Center
