Diver dies after collapsing on charter boat near Juno Beach
JUNO BEACH, Fla. -- Detectives from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) Violent Crimes Division are investigating the death of a diver on Friday off Juno Beach.
At 2:40 p.m. on Friday, a charter boat captain from Jupiter Dive Center requested assistance from the Coast Guard regarding a diver in distress.
FWC officers responded and the unresponsive man was placed on their boat and transported to St. Mary's Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The man was identified as 43-year-old James Lignon of Kennesaw, Georgia.
According to PBSO, detectives learned that Ligon did not indicate any signs of distress when he surfaced from the water.
He swam back to the boat, climbed up the ladder and stepped onto the boat. Witnesses told detectives that he then stood up and collapsed, striking his head on the deck floor.
