Thanks OP. Have you found out more info on this BC. I am also looking at this BC because of its reasonable cost. I haven't seen much posted on it here. Is the waist adjustment just moving where the velcro closes on the waist like the Sherwood Freedom (ie. no other adjustments)? I will need an XL. I have a 48" waist and am losing weight. Will this BC deal with that?

Depends on the type of diving you're doing.

Genesis Tropic(al) BCD

This would be my travel BC only. I am looking around for the most value for the dollar in this space. I looked at the Sherwood Freedom but it has no waist adjust other than the velcro at the front. The Sequest Balance is my top choice right now but it is pricey for a tropical BC. The other course of action is to go with a Zeagle Brigade/Escape/Stiletto. The problem is the lifetime warranty is useless since the closest place for annual service is a long way for me and I don't see mailing it back and forth every year.

Thanks OP for starting this link.

I have the Tropic BCD and love it, I dive So Cal in a Dry suit and travel , it works great. The name is kind of misleading thinking its only a warm wter BCD , but that could not be farther from the truth. It has an adj-cumber bum and just enough crap on it , but not to much like a lot of BCD's.

I purchased a Genesis Tropic last Friday and test dove over the weekend. I purchased it as a travel BC. I looked at Sherwood's Tortuga, Cressi-Sub's Aqualight, Zegle Stilletto, Zeagle Escape, Aqualung Malibu, and Seaquest Balance. List got short when it came down to price. Big price range here. I considered a Sherwood Freedom but discovered Sherwood recently discontinued the line.

I had better bouyancy control with the Tropic than I have with my Seaquest Pro QD+. I was using 100cf PST steel tank. Tank was stable with the double strap on the backpack. I was surprised that I didn't get the face forward push on the surface I expected from a back inflate. It was comfortable on my back. Weight releases were easy to release and easy to grab. I liked the zippered weight pouches. The pouches are rated for 10 pounds each but it would be a tight fit to get two 5lb soft weight sacks in there. Inflator hose worked well. Inflator quick disconnect was larger than Seaquest's making it easier to disconnect if the inflator ever sticks. Pockets were small but accessible. It had less D rings than my Seaquest but , I didn't miss them even toting a UW camera on a lanyard. Sternum strap was in a good spot keeping the shoulder straps in place. I have an XL. I'm on the large side (46" W). Cunberbund was comfortable. I wish they would put a handle grip on their tank measuring strap on the back. It did fold up and pack well in my dive bag. Overall, I'm happy with it. For the money, I think it was well worth the investment.

These are exactly the same BCs I am looking at. Great info about the size of the weight pockets and about the Sherwood Freedom. Was your waist adjusted all the way out? I have a 48 inch waist so I will need a bit more room. Were you wearing a wet suit?

Glad to hear the Bc is getting such good reviews. Would some of you happy owners like to comment on, what Genesis calls the "thermo-molded comfort pad"? How hard is it? What type of material? does it appear to be able to hold up over 200 or so dives?

TIA
