heading out there next month, first time to Bonaire. Wooot! can someone explain the layout of the place, we will be staying in a 'hotel room'. What is the setup for gear storage? are there lockers or a storage area? or do we have to haul everything back to the room after rinsing? do we need a lock? hangars? anything else?

There is a gear storage room that the dive shop locks at night. It is right down by the dive dock. I've used it for years and never had a problem with loss. The key is left in a secret spot so that you can get to your gear after hours.
There are no individual lockers. I tend to bring just wetsuits back to the room and drape over balcony or chair to dry. Not enough air circulation in the storage room so wetsuits tend to stay wet and stink after a few days.

thanks! that really helps. so it's like an honor system? everyone uses the same key hidden in the same 'secret spot'????

Yes. Everyone uses the same key. I've stayed there a number of times and not had problems. Curious if anyone else has.

Take a mesh duffle type gear bag that will hold mask/snkl/fins/boots/regulator..hang day on a peg in the gear locker with the wetsuit also hung on the peg under mesh bag handles, or stuffed into the bag..stuff is fairly safe there. I never had anything go missing there personally in over 10 trips .When anything does go missing it usually is carelessness on the owners part.. If you use a weight belt leave it on floor not on peg where it can fall on someones foot. IF someone takes it it is because they thought it was their as alot of gear has a similar look.Safeguard that issue by using a mesh bag and placing on peg as I described.

The mesh bag also makes getting on/off boats and packing up the truck so much easier! Never had problems. We leave BC, fins, masks and weights in the gear room. Take our regs, computers and small stuff (safety sausage, lights, slates) back to room between dives. I usually throw a couple heavy duty hangers in suitcase to hang the wetsuits outside - the patio area has pegs for hanging. Rinsed gear is layed outside between dives to dry, it comes inside at night. I have heard people claim stuff was taken, agree many times it was an either an accident or they left it in a rinse tank somewhere. For that reason - mark all your gear. We use 'super permanent Sharpie industrial' pens. Come in basic black and a silver which shows up well against black dive gear. All gear - cameras, strobes, housing, suits, weight belts, BC's, fins , everything - is marked in multiple places.

The gear storage room is OK if you are doing boat dives or their shore dive. If you are doing the drive and dive, you will probably be better off just leaving your gear in your room before and after those dives. Their drive and dive facility is on the east side of the property close to the parking lot where you will park your truck. You must get your tanks from that facility rather than the one by the dock. Use the tank supply by the dock only for their shore dive. The facility on the east side also has rinse tanks so you can give your gear a rinse when you pick up full tanks.

Enjoy.

There are gear lockers at the drive thru that you can put a lock on..No real need to drag gear back to room..

Like the rest, I have used the gear locker for years. Never had anything taken although one of our group was "missing" his wetsuit once....a few hour later it was back where he left it..wet. :) they do look alike. I tend to take my regs and wetsuits back to the room, the wetsuits to dry better and the regs for pease of mind.
