I picked up three Luxfer AL80 tanks today for $90. Total price, not each. They are used and needed hydro updates (already dropped them off at my LDS), but still a great price. Now I can dive whenever I want (and my schedule permits) and maybe get semi-decent at doing this.

What year are the original hydro dates??
You won't be gloating if you find they are 6351 alloy luxfers nobody wants to touch

Correct me if I'm wrong here. Don't worry it happens a lot! But I thought that the Luxfer tanks were ok. I'm a victim of this 6351 alloy and have 2 tanks that I believe pass inspections but my LDS wont fill, but when I did very limited research about it the Luxfer were all good. Now I can't seem to find where I read that so I probably am wrong!:shocked2:

See this post, but only really till about post 20 then it turns into a fight.

Could it have been Catalina tanks that you read were okay? Im 99% sure Luxfer used 6351 prior to 1989/90.

To the op, If the tanks are pre 1990 I would ask your lds if they are willing to fill the tanks if they pass. It can't hurt to ask before you spend the money for hydro.

Correct, Catalina never used the 6351 alloy.

For the Luxfers, depending on the exact tank size, I think the cut-off was 1987-1989.

Personally, I would NOT own 6351 alloy tanks, they are time bombs....

the problem with that plan is what happens if:
1) the LDS that will fill them goes out of business/changes owners (and policies) ?
2) you move away from that particular LDS, and your new LDS has different policies?

told you I was wrong:rofl3:

I agree completely. What I was trying to say (admittedly not very well) was that if the tanks are pre 1990 and the op was dead set on getting the tanks tested he may as well find out if they are willing to fill them. It wouldn't be the first time a lds took the money for the test only to refuse to fill the tanks when they return.

I guess we will all just have to wait here on the edge of our seats.:D
