I am preparing for my awo and doing five speciality class before the end of summer. I just completed my 50th dive this past week and figured it was time. My question is about deep diving equipment. Is a Scubapro MK200 first stage with a G200B sutable for deep diving. I don't believe the MK200 is balance. I also have a Dacor 950/Pacer XL - Dacor is serviced and working fine but I use my Scubapro.

Either will be fine, as long as they're in good working order.

Bear in mind that what qualifies as "deep" diving by recreational standards is not really deep, in the sense that it would require specialized gear.

You might consider a larger tank. An AL80 at 100 feet is fine if you're diving tables, since you won't be down very long. But if you're diving a computer, a 100 or 120cf tank will give your multi level dive a lot more bottom time. When we did our AOW deep dive, I used a 100cf tank. We stayed deep (106 feet max) until we got to 2 minutes left on my NDL and then came up the side of the reef and played around on top (50-60 feet) till I got down to 750PSI. A much better dive that way. :)

Another gear consideration for "deep" diving is exposure protection. One may hit thermoclines and neoprene will become thinner at depth.

If your regs are serviced and tuned properly, there's no reason they would be unsafe.

Your regulators should be just fine within the recreational definition of deep diving. While they may draw a little more difficultly at depth, you probably won't notice.

I don't know what you mean by 'deep' but I dive to around 100-120 feet all the time on the wrecks around Key Largo, Tavernier and Islamorada using a set of Sherwood BRUT regulators which I bought from Leisurepro a couple years ago for $150. They work just fine. I started diving about six years ago when I was given a box full of Dacors which included some 960 and 950 first stages and Pacer XL and XLE seconds. I had the best of them serviced and dove with them for a couple years which included many dives on the wrecks and reefs around the Upper Keys. They are still like new and I wouldn't hesitate to use them at any time for any of these dives. They are a little heavy, being brass and chrome but they are as solid as a '58 Buick and really good looking. So long as the internals are OK and they have been checked over by a reg man I wouldn't worry about it.

If you're planning to get into deeper diving, put more emphasis on the size of your tank than the style of your regulator ... best reg in the world won't deliver air if the tank runs out.

Is a Scubapro MK200/G200B sutable for deep diving (120'). I know that the G200B is balanced and up to 60' has been an easy breather. I going to be taking the PADI deep diver, wreck, navigation and nitrox class. I also have a Dacor 950/Pacer XL. The XL is balanced but not sure about the 950 first stage.

I'd be more concerned about the temp than the depth. Depending on the location, it can be chilly at 120.

As for that model, I don't have any specific knowledge about it and can't help you there.
