Amazing timing. I was looking into this as well because I just acquired 2 G200B 2nd stages in excellent condition. Unfortunately it's not as easy as buying a knob and screwing it in. The G200B air barrel is externally threaded ala the earlier G500 case regs. You *could* get an earlier knob assembly and put it on. It will thread onto the air barrel and seal up the case no problem. But the clip that stops you from unscrewing the knob assembly right off of the air barrel doesn't have enough clearance to slip on.

So you could have a metal air barreled G250HP if you really wanted to, but just be careful not to loosen it up too much. Otherwise you have to buy the air barrel and adjuster screw.

I did a few of them back a few years ago, but the parts are NLA, and there also became a point when the air barrels of current models (g250v) are not the backwards compatible.

The real question, is why would you? The g200b (and it's predecessor the g200) actually are great breathes if tuned properly. Kind of like changing a 109 to balanced, I do prefer the balanced over non-balanced so that change was a plus for me. I guess if you wanted to be able to stiffen it up as an octopus, you might want the adjuster. I actually dove a g200b as a primary, with a g250 as the backup for that purpose.

On an "interesting" sidebar, there was a "blanking plug" for the 109 making the adjustable into a fixed style. It was a "military" component... So, basically making the g200 predecessor before it was made.

Anyone know if there was a general production SP model resembling the G200 back in time?

Eric, just for you.

I don't understand why they would make a balanced model that wasn't adustable?
G250 vs G200B. All I can think is to capture more sales with something just a tad more economical without much performance change.
And why did they make a non balanced version, the plain G200?
All I can think with that is they have a smoother lever action than regular poppet lever regs with no air barrel. The way the feet work on the poppet assembly on the G200 and 109's requires less cracking effort due to the leverage the lever feet have by the twisting motion on the poppet assembly.
That's all I can think.
