Looking at a gear back that is 660 ballistic nylon. I see other bags at two and three times this much but they are in the $300 range. This bag is a little over $100.

I want my stuff to be protected when I travel, but not sure about this thickness. They do advertise that they have a PVC coating which supposedly provides another 400 of protection. Is that legit?

The brand I am looking at is made by Tilos. If you know anything about this brand, I would be interested to hear about it.

Thanks,

When you say transport your gear do you mean like via airlines...in a car..not sure what you meant...but....

What I did was get away from the pelican cases...the bags with DIVE GEAR...STEAL THIS BAG...written all over it.

I went to LOWES and bought a heavy duty...just the right size...tupperware like plastic container that my bcd and just a couple other small things that I think need protection during transport (air) and made sure its deminsions would fit in a non descript duffle bag like suit case. I also got a couple of luggage straps to go around the plastic container so the top would not pop off with luggage ape handling.

Since then i havent been charged for what is obviously dive gear by the airlines and get less of an eye ball on my bag from others. It looks like a normal bag....not one with $3000 worth of dive gear in it....and i got all the fixins for under $50.

good luck...rich

wooo hooo....# 500 !!!!

I don't think the thread count of the nylon is the important factor. If you want to keep stuff from getting crushed by the airlines, the best protection is a hardsided case. For things like wetsuits, the cheapest duffel is fine.

After trying various combinations, I've settled on a hardsided Samsonite F'lite case for the sensitive stuff. A cheap $20 duffel from Target get the wetsuits and any overflow of crushable stuff like clothing from the main suitcase. The duffel also works as a gear bag to haul stuff from hotels to boats and back. One year and about 10 round trips and it is only just now beginning to show a tiny bit of wear. Even $100 is way to much to pay for a softsided bag.

Thanks for the responses. I am looking for a roller bag that would carry most all of my dive gear that I can take on a plane.

I was planning on just using a mesh bag to and from the daily boat dives.

I just use a Koho Hockey bag.. it has wheels so it's easy to move around... cheap too.. I got mine as a gift but hockey bags usually go unsale this time of year for under $50.00

:overlord: Travelok 2000 is what I use. It costs about $150 on LP.

It has rigid sides, a heavy duty zipper, rollers and according to their propaganda a "Combination of 1680 & 840 Denier nylon with 1200 & 600 Denier polyester rip-stopmaterial."

I think its a great bag. It fits all of my gear (regs are in my carry-on) and its pretty tough. If you were traveling light (tropical) you may even be able to fit two sets of gear inside.

Not me though, I like to win the 'who has the most crap hanging off their BC' contest when I dive

Watch the size -- "hockey bags" are often over the size limits for free checked luggage (typically 52 inches sum of LWD, YMMV). Domestically, they "usually" don't penalize you unless it's egregious, but international air travel tends to be just the oposite -- limits are limits; $75 oversize charge, please.
