Looking for fellow SB'ers that will be diving GC east end between 10/19 and 10/24.
Wife and I are diving with OF 10/20, 22, 23; staying at Morritt's Tortuga club.
If you'll be there that week let me know - as a new diver and new SB'er, looking
for fellow enthusiasts...

I would post something here: http://morritts.17.forumer.com It's the unofficial Morritt's forum. It gets a bit of diver traffic.

I'll be at Morritt's starting Saturday (Sep 6). That is assuming that Hanna turns right at Cuba like she's supposed to, but still let's me connect through Charlotte; and that Ike doesn't decide to head straight West; and that TD10 wanders into colder water and dissipates, and...

sigh.

Thanks for the link. Let me know what you think when you get back - i've heard mixed things about the resort. Who are you diving with?

I'm an owner at Morritts and have been there several times and have enjoyed myself quite a bit. I'll post as much as I can while I'm there.

Mostly, we'll be doing shore dives since money is tight and the cost difference is significant. I might do one boat dive with a friend to help celebrate his birthday. I'm not sure about who I'll dive with if I go out on a boat. Since I "own" at Morritts, I get a heafty discount from their on-site op (Tortuga Divers) and I like just walking out of my unit and getting on the boat. I've never had a bad experience with them, but I know others here have. Lots of good things are said about Ocean Fronteers, but I've never been given a reason to give up the convenience of walking out to the dock and jumping on a boat.

While Gustav did largely spare GC, the dock at Morritts took another hit. The word is that Morritts is saying they do not have the funds to make the repair now. Tortuga may be back to shuttling divers by skiff to the boats at the moorings.

I will be at the opposite end of the island at the Cobalt Coast Reosrt. Any news on their docks?

That's interesting, very interesting. I'll see what I can find out when I'm there starting Saturday.

Thanks for the head's up Drew.

Dock bar at Morritt's opened Sunday or Monday and we were on the first Red Sail boat out of the dock this morning. Word around here is that they didn't have replacement decking and it has to be shipped from the U.S.. They have made due with plywood in the meantime. Anyway, the dock is open for boats and beer (what else is there?). No word on when the compressor shed will be available again.

It's been less than ideal for diving this week. Will post a more full report on Monday.

Thanks.

We get in the 13th and head out the 20. We are staying at Reef Resort.

I am an owner there too...I love the place. The pools are great with swim up bars, there is TONS of beach to relax, a private water sport/diving company, everything you need! I think you'll love it.

We are actually renting out our 2009 week now. We decided to upgrade next year to a larger unit and invite some friends so our 1 BR unit is available if anyone wants to see the blue waters of the Caymans!! PM me or email me for details...
