Last weekend was one of those weekends I guess. I couldn't seem to have everything working at the same time. Day 1 I dealt with a busted switch boot on my light. ( I just replaced that effin thing last week - funny how that sometimes works. You can go years with one and then go through three in one one weekend) Scooter diving with two others in rather limited viz and a backup light just sucks.
Anyway, got that fixed for the next day, but just before I'm about to jump in the water (ie - all suited up and sweating my butt off) I test my scooter. Cable snaps or comes of the trigger or something. It's one of those miracoulous times that there isn't one single screwdriver on the boat. I jury rigged it with some cave line, but I must tie knots like a girl scout cause about 5 minutes into the dive it comes undone. I'm gonna spare you the long details of how I tried to fix it underwater, but if you think dry gloves, cave line, and zip ties I'm sure you can imagine how successful I was.
So, finally to my question. I thought I remember reading somewhere that you could use a double ender to "roll" the actuating pulley, but I can't seem to see how that would work too well. I assume you put one end around the magnet and use it as a lever, but I couldn't really get it to stay without two hands and then it was more cumbersome than just using two hands and moving the wheel with my left hand.
So we just stowed and swam - and fortunately for me the guy I'm diving with is some sort of olympic swimmer.
