I'm with Rich. If God had intended your gauges to be dragged through the mud they would not have first had wrist straps on them. I wear mine on a pull-on gauntlet: Compass, and watch (aqualand, so bottom timer, thermometer and depth gauge).

EVERYONE includes Rick and me. Not everyone, not by any stretch of the imagination. If you wonder why, do a search, there's no need for us to waste the time to go through it again.

Rick Inman:
Actually, wrist gages are a hog kit standard set up. I am IANTD technical trained. Is IANTD a koolaid thing to you, too? Are you calling all divers who use wrist gages koolaid drinkers?

This poster ask for our opinions. I gave mine. If you have an issue with that, why don't you take it to PM. Or even better, actually think about HELPING the poster by giving your input. I promise not to insult you based on your equipment choices. This should be common courtesy.

Rick, chill man! Are we a bit touchy today? :D

No, HOG/IANTD is not kool-aid, but there are other possible suggestions to the OP's questions than the standard DIR set-up you listed. HOG/IANTD suggests the use of a wrist mounted timing device, but that can be a computer as well, they suggest the use an SPG but does not have to be the standalone "DIR Zone/Halcyon" SPG on a 24" hose mounted xyz way nor they speculate that you cannot use a console. They suggest things but leave it up to the individual to select what works for them based on their diving and needs.

No way do I think that all those of us that dive with wrist mounted units are kool-aid junkies, but it seems that most people will force that mentality upon anyone that is asking for a simple suggestion. There are many ways of doing things and there are many different people with many different ideas, you cannot plainly believe that only 1 solution is valid, there is a very anal forum for that.

Didn't mean to offend you in any way, you dive the way you want but when the OP asks opinions on certain gauge consoles, why try to persuade him the other way? If they want a console give them a console -- simple as that. Let them figure it out for themselves and let them come to the conclusion on their own. After all we all know there is more then one way of doing things and only a few follow blindly not knowing exactly why or how, but since they have been told so, they do!

So to help out the OP, I would suggest a small console that will not be in the way, nicely clipped or tucked away that, if need be, can be modular for further development or use.

Tamas, I think you are going overboard with your anti-dir ranting. If you look at what Rick posted, he never suggested a DIR Zone/Halcyon anything, and never mentioned a hose length. Two of the items are scubapro and 1 is suunto, both very standard choices that a wide range of divers choose. He also never said that anyone cannot use a console.

.

The OP didn't say he wanted a console until AFTER Ricks post, the OP asked for opinions on GAUGES.
Let them figure it out for themselves???? Isn't advice what people are looking for when they post questions like this?

Not at all, my friend. If you look at my post, I simply specified and clarified that HOG/IANTD does not specify requirements to the "T" like DIR does (I simply mentioned a few examples), I have my opinion(s) and was simply helping Rick out to remember the non kool-aid approach.

Read the title Jason, that should help a bit. As for the comment about letting them figuring it out themselves, that was in broad spectrum. For individual questions, the OP pretty much was asking for a broad questions on gauge clusters, not specifics between ScubaPro or Suunto.

Me? Me?? Touchy??!!

Ah... I feel much better now... :D

Rick Inman:
I would buy a standard wrist mount bottom timer/depth gauge like THIS, , a wrist compass, like THIS, and a standard SPG like THIS.
Nice job... Rick:popcorn:

Thalassamania,

I'm interested in what you mean by a "pull-on gauntlet". Someone sell one where I can take a look?

Thanks
