Gas prices are just where we predicted they'd be 25 years ago... it just took them longer to get to this level than we expected when we made the predictions. Just wish more of the money went into needed infrastructure repairs than into the pockets of the oil companies and OPEC nations.
I can say this since I don't own a car here on the island and walk everywhere, and the car I own on the mainland gets 40 mpg and is only driven about once a month. I do feel for those who need to commute long distances (common here in SoCal), have no access to decent mass transit, live on limited income or were fooled into buying SUV's, trucks and other gas guzzlers.
When I was young my parents had one car and Dad car pooled to work so Mom had the car most of the time. Although we were supposedly the "green" generation, I think of all the conservation measures my parents' generation accepted due to WWII. Refillable soda bottles with real deposits and return provisions (unlike today), recycling newspapers, carpooling, etc. What has my generation and our children's done?
