The Jambalaya, red beans and rice, and partying are great in New Orleans. You know, it's another world down here. It's a great place to live and dive. Are you from Texas? Gulf diving is virtually unknown in this sinking state, but we have some of the best scenery and spearfishing along the coast.

Who has been to New Orleans and been diving or spearfishing at the rigs?

kcb.... Last I checked the Crescent city was in La. My bride was born in Orleans parish. Last trip I was down there I couldn't find an outfit that went out to the rigs. I'm thinking the one shop I found left out of Vienna but it was more than I wanted to spend.

BTW... Gasman is a kiwi.... New Zealand... that is a spot I'd like to dive..

As Tom has correctly stated,I'm from 'Down under' where the day starts first and there is the least corruption in the world.(just thought I'd put that in...it's official you know!)
My mother was in NO in 94 and the pictures were great. The closest I have been is Florida.I'd love to go and shake my generous ass off to the rythems.....I'm part french descent myself.I'm in Seoul at the moment and hopefully will hit Canada and Fiji on the way home.My old man is from Jamaica.I'd love to dive there.

(I'm visualising it, Gman... :p)

Sorry Gasman,

One of the only dive shops that books trips to the rigs is The Scuba Company in New Orleans, LA. One boat leaves out of Venice and the other out of Port Fouchon. And, no the trips are not cheap, but a way better price than the Flower Gardens ($395 or something for a two day trip). Rig Trips vary by which boat you wish to use. If you use the one out of Venice it is $150.00; the one out of Port Fouchon is $120, both boats include diving from 6 a to 3-5 p, bait , ice for the fish, and tackle to fish during you surface interval, and an ice chest full of ice for soft drinks and lunch (you provide). It does not include gear (i.e. tanks, weights, weight belt, etc.) The Captain out of Venice promises blue water dives and will go to the point to guarantee that you will spear many fish (unless you are a newbie or do not wish to spear fish). It is, by far, a superior trip to the one in Fouchon.

It's is all in the experience you want to have on a dive trip, but I guarantee - it's like nothing else (including Florida).

Contact Capt. Al Walker in Venice, he advertises in spearfishing magazine and had a web site too, he books trips directly and knows a lot about spearfishing the rigs.
I dive out of Dauphin Island, 'A"L, its about 3 hrs from New Orleans, we have lots of rigs here but also have thousands of wrecks and some natural bottom, very good spearfishing.
